What Are Life Skills?
Why are they important?
Life Skills are “the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.”
Life skills enable us to translate knowledge, attitude, & values into actual abilities. In other words "what to do and how to do it."
Life skills education takes into account psycho-social competencies and interpersonal skills that help students to make the right decisions, solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, empathize with others, and cope with managing their lives in a healthy and productive manner.
Teach Life Skills & Change Our World
"Education that helps young people develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, that builds their sense of personal worth and agency, and teaches them to interact with others constructively and effectively, has transformative potential."
What they learn...
By gaining awareness of the power they possess to make intentional decisions, girls learn to choose positive actions which demonstrate respect and responsibility towards themselves and others.
Lessons are designed to build girls' self-worth and help them feel greater confidence in who they are. Activities help girls recognize their personal strengths and teach them how to stand up for themselves and others.
Our program provides skill-building experiences to nurture girls' social and emotional competencies that they apply in other areas of their lives such as home, school, and in the community.
Throughout each session, girls learn to respond to others and themselves with care and compassion. Lessons and activities further develop their abilities to sympathize and empathize both within and beyond their social groups.
Lessons are designed to focus on cooperative skills and team building through a positive group setting. Girls learn firsthand how to create positive connections with parents and caregivers, teachers, peers and their communities.
Empower and Support
The butterfly has one of the most fascinating life cycles of all creatures. Before growing into an adult, it goes through various stages, with each stage having a different goal. In the same way, we must create supportive environments and opportunities for OUR YOUTH to transition into the beautiful butterflies that they were created to be. Because, although, the butterfly and the caterpillar are completely different, they are one and the same.
